Rory Smith

The following is information from Rory's biography submitted to us along with his work:

Rory is a 25 year English major at California State University, Fresno. He is 25 years old and has been writing since he was about seven. Rory has had poetry published in several forums. In 1992 he received an accomplishment of merit award from Creative Arts & Science Enterprises for his short-short story, The Counseled.

In 1993 his short story, Just Part of the Package, was included in the Ten Top Short Stories of 1993, from American Literary Press. The following year the short story, Thirst, was received and published in ESC! magazine.

Rory writes of himself:

"My individual voice stems from a culmination of lyrical and abstract poetry, as well as an early interest in classic literature.

After High School, my interests developed more readily around explorations of short fiction while I pursued a two and a half year program for liberal arts at Fresno City College.

Currently I am finishing up my BA in English (with an emphasis in Creative Writing) at California State University, Fresno, where I am exploring what I call neo-humanist fiction. My examination of the human condition as multifaceted and morally questionable, leads to an understanding that people are different and alike at the same time. At least I hope it does. I like to say my fiction portrays the grit in the grout of contemporary society."

As you might expect, we look forward to more of Rory's work.
