Mortality

by Lee Baran

From dust we came
To dust we go
Mortality lasts only for so long
Before it loses hope.

Bones solidify,
Bones crumble
All to dust
Too soon.

Flesh wears
Tears with time,
Wrinkles withers
All to dust
Too soon.

From Ashes to ashes
The saying goes
But will know
That we learn nothing.

Past mistakes ignored
And we carry on
Turning things to dust
Before turning ourselves to dust.

Bombs, guns
Mortality decrease
Radioactivity, pollution
Mortality withers away.

'Till darkness draws
Near to us
And those dear to us
fade away.

Once withered and exposed
We lose all knowledge gained
But from dust we came
To dust we go.

Mortality falters......Eventually.
