Haiku

John Sheirer

first class
laughing too hard
at my own jokes

chocolate buzz
how fast and how much
I can talk

snowfall at midnight
the sound of my computer
booting up

my cheap car
makes an unhealthy sound
I turn up the radio

at the red light
in a red car
she twirls her red hair

odometer changes
but all my destinations
remain the same

electric pencil sharpener
my brain
makes the same sound

on the sunbaked playground
the most expensive sneakers
squeak the loudest

big hunger
but only small food
in the fridge

just for the sound
twisting my ankle
to make it crack

at his funeral
ex-wives
in all four corners

my hangnail
on her
silk blouse

late night snack
we stand naked
in refigerator light

after we share the shower
the soap
so much smaller
